Death to the Self

“It is in dying that we are born to eternal life.” – St. Francis of Assisi

A heart that lives not just for one’s self – that was what she wanted to have. So she decided to let go. She surrendered, but she won. Have you heard? Have you heard of her? The girl who died to the self?

This particular illustration is about death to self, a concept that I hold special, something that I only knew of recently. As a favorite song goes, one that I remember hearing years ago at Church, “Walang sinuman ang nabubuhay para sa sarili lamang, walang sinuman ang namamatay para sa sarili lamang.”

If translated from Filipino to English, it means “No one lives just for one’s self, no one dies just for one’s self.” I’m a lousy translator, but that’s the thought! I do not want to live just for myself but for God first and for the people He wants me to serve within and beyond my reach.
